H-E-B Center returned to live entertainment on July 1st with the one and only, Snoop Dogg vs DJ Snoopadelic in support of his new album, From Tha Streets 2 Tha Suites, with special guests Slim Thug and Lil Keke. The D-Oh-Double-Gee himself spins all kinds of hits, and yes, even picks up the mic and sings along with some hot tracks, like “CEO”, from the new album.
In true Snoop fashion, he hit the stage 45 minutes late and tucked himself securely behind the DJ deck. Snoop Dogg and DJ Snoopadelic came out swinging with his biggest hits right off the bat. He dropped “Nuthin’ But a “G” Thang” to open and then seamlessly rolled into a DJ role. Speaking of big hits, Snoop was quick to perfume the room in the way only Snoop can do (as seen from the puffs of smoke from the booth). The faithful come back year after a year and tonight they had all the room they needed to boogie down; the sparsely attended but exuberant crowd was ready to party with Snoop at the helm.
A bare stage, except for an LED screen in front of the DJ booth, DJ Snoop was spinning everything from campy to ballads, then deep grooves- he and the pioneers of hip hop and rap laid down old school 90’s to tracks from Snoop’s new album.
This show was a great way to kick off summer and get back to some normalcy in our lives from the pandemic. The show itself felt more like a soundtrack than a performance and on hot July night in Texas, it was the right vibe, but might have been more in sync in a different, more intimate venue.

Perhaps it was the source of the puffs of smoke, but both opening rappers, Slim Thug and Lil’ Keke, thought they were in H town, repeatedly hollering out for Houston to ‘get up and dance’.
Snoop MC beats DJ Snoopadelic hands down, but after a year plus of no LIVE music at all, just being in a room full of energy and people, Snoop laying down the soundtrack to a brave new groove was just what we needed.
