It was a very hot and humid night in Austin- but a perfect night to check out some cool new music. It’s truly one of the best things about living here.
Lexi Jayde is a young newcomer in the music world- at only 19 she instantly seems so mature for her age. She’s been writing songs since she was only 7. She already has over 2 millions followers so the word is out. Lexi is personable, honest, and open about her struggles and insecurities. Lexi released her breakthrough single “drunk text me” in January which has over 30 million streams and has a new single “self sabotage”.
Lexi came to downtown Austin to iconic Antone’s Nightclub in support of singer Clinton Kane. Jayde greeted fans before the show putting fliers on road signs and around the venue. She started the night with an acoustic set with just one guitarist. She has a pop sound but with maturity. She sang songs about her last hurtful relationship and connects easily with the crowd with her raw and emotional singing about the trials of life. The crowd was very interactive and sang along with her throughout her set.
With lyrics like ‘Hooking up instead of healing, Wanna know just what you’re feeling now, What are you feeling now’, she is soulful and relatable.
Lexi mostly played her own songs and also a cool acoustic version of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story”. I got a chance to chat briefly with her. I asked her if this was her first visit here in Austin and she said, “Yes it is , I’ve been so happy to be here. It’s been really hot though. I’ve been dying of the heat but it’s been really beautiful so far.” We hope she won’t be a stranger to Austin and will be back again soon.
