‘Be Our Guest’ To See ‘Your Favorite Things’ And More In the 2025 – 2026 Broadway in Austin Season!
With much anticipation, Texas Performing Arts revealed the 2025 – 2026 season at a Preview Party on Monday night. Fan favorites and popular new shows are set to hit the stage this Fall. Regular season ticket holders, and curious theater enthusiasts were bursting with excitement as each of the 10 shows was announced.
Live performers straight from Broadway treated the audience to songs from The Outsiders and Beauty and the Beast, two iconic stories being told on stage in the new season. Josh Strobl sang “Great Expectations,” and was later joined by John Patrick Collins for “Stay Gold.” Songs and lyrics from The Outsiders are from Austin duo, Jamestown Revival, bringing a special local connection to the Tony Award winning hit.
Broadway veteran Kathy Voytko announced her role as Mrs. Potts in the new tour of Beauty and the Beast before singing “Tale As old As Time.” Audience members quietly sang along as the magic of Disney spread throughout the venue. Another nostalgic announcement came as people were asked about their “favorite things.” This week is the 60th Anniversary of The Sound of Music and a new North American Tour will come to Bass Concert Hall in February of 2026.
Kimberly Akimbo starts the season off with its joyful ride through family dysfunction and the challenges of life. The new year offers add on shows, Hadestown and the historically accurate yet rockstar version of events with Six. Next spring will bring a party to the stage that crosses multiple generations with Mamma Mia! A different kind of celebration roars through March of 2026, The Great Gatsby. Closing out the spring will be The Wiz as attendees “ease on down the road” in this soulful legend of a show. And last but not least, Shakespeare, girl power, and pop songs unite in a new take on an old classic, & Juliet, which will make it to Austin in July of next year.
TPA Executive Director, Bob Bursey, embodied a modern-day Mr. Rogers with a whimsical smile as he made each announcement and listened to the audience respond enthusiastically. He was joined on stage by UT Alumni Lauren Reid, President of the John Gore organization responsible for bringing Broadway to millions of fans, who came from New York proudly wearing burnt orange. Local favorite Trevor Scott sat down with The Outsiders Producer, Matthew Rego for an informative conversation about how musicals get made. Olin Meadows, a theater arts teacher from Benold Middle School in Georgetown, was presented with an inaugural Educator of the Year award from Texas Performing Arts. And local singers and dancers delighted the audience with songs from Mamma Mia to end the night.
