All the cool kids (who got lucky with tickets) went to Willie Nelson’s ranch for the annual music festival, headlined by him and the family. There was a full day of music featuring more than 40 acts, culinary experiences with renowned chefs from across the nation, local artisans and one of a kind merch. There were epic surprise performances peppered throughout the day from Jessica Simpson, Arcade Fire & Friends, Waxahatchee, and Lucinda Williams.

The World Headquarters Main Stage kicked off with Southwest Artist on the Rise winner Marlon Funaki, BRISCOE, Chaparelle and Friends: A Tribute to Kris Kristofferson, Shane Smith and the Saints, Waxahatchee, and ended the night with Willie Nelson and Family. Arcade Fire, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Margo Price, Steve Earle and more joined Willie on stage for a gospel medley featuring classics.

The Barn Stage had beer flowing and music bumping all day long from Wonder Women of Country, Ken Pomeroy, Lily Meola, Julien Baker & Torres. The stage hosted not one, but two incredible surprise guests. Jessica Simpson graced Luck with her first full set since 2008 treating fans to tunes from her forthcoming EP, Nashville Canyon. Lucinda Williams closed out the night with her soulful, emotive croon.

Tito’s Handmade Vodka took over the Saloon Stage once again and kept fans dancing as the consistently packed room took in sets from Arsun, Tommy Newport, Aly and AJ, Micah Nelson with Lafemmebear, Kim Richey, and Jessye DeSilva. An unannounced appearance from Arcade Fire & Friends sent a surge of joy through the audience as fans lined up to catch a tune.

The newly renovated and restored Chapel Stage showcased intimate performances throughout the day, including sets from Lefty Parker, Lizzy No, Jessie Wells, and Lukas Nelson. Luck Reunion x Western AF presented: The Last Lost Weekend (Kristina Murray, John R. Miller, Jamie Wyatt, She Returns From War), and Steve Earle & Friends featuring Emily Nenni, Tommy Prine and Parker Twomey. Each set had fans gazing through the chapel windows to get a glimpse…

Fans flocked to the Revival Tent for Deslondes, BMI Acts in the Round (Valley James, JD Clayton, Coleman Jennings), Willi Carlisle, Infinity Song, Grace Bowers, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Taj Mahal.

New this year was a robust line-up of panels on The Luck Family Foundation Community Conversations Stage. Luck Presents launched their philanthropic arm in 2015, now formally known as the Luck Family Foundation, to support core community resources: the environment, food systems, farmers, artists, and musicians in line with Willie Nelson’s human-first principles. Since its inception, the foundation—managed by the Austin Community Foundation—has raised over $2.8 million. Panels featured conversations between artists, collaborators, grantees and partners including REVERB, Farm Aid, SFC’s Farm, B5 Farm, Margo Price, Matthew Logan Vasquez, and The Common Market.

Visit Ft. Worth presented sets from Matthew McNeal, Claire Hinkle, Squeezebox Bandits and Angel White. The newly minted Jack Daniels Stage featured Grace Rowland, The Bros Fresh, Jonathan Terrell, and Caroline Hale.

Southwest Airlines® celebrated the sixth installment of Southwest: On The Rise To Luck program this year, which saw winner Marlon Funaki and participants Luke Tyler Shelton, Improvement Movement taking the stage and joining the Luck family. Through the Artist On The Rise platform, Southwest supports up-and-coming talent to help them reach new heights in their careers.
Southwest Airlines also hosted the Blue Mercantile with Magpies & Peacocks, a Houston-based nonprofit design house dedicated to the collection, curation, and sustainable reuse of post consumer textiles, to disrupt the cycle of waste in the fashion industry. Magpies & Peacocks is a partner with Southwest through their Repurpose with Purpose program. Luck attendees had the opportunity to learn more about their partnership and purchase a unique piece that uses upcycled aircraft seat leather.
